Terms

The terms of using MatchLog.

What MatchLog is, who may do what on it and what each of us is responsible for. How we handle children’s information is on the privacy page, and these terms do not change anything it says.

Who we are and what MatchLog is

MatchLog is operated by TeraWeb Design in South Africa. It records school and club sport: fixtures, the events of each match, the score and the logs worked out from the results. Someone at the field keeps the score on a phone, and anyone with the link can follow it.

These terms apply to every organisation that uses MatchLog (a school, a club, a union or a tournament host), to the people it gives an account or a scoring link to, and to anyone who opens a MatchLog page. Following a match needs no account, and using the site means you accept these terms.

Your organisation’s account

  • Your organisation decides who gets an account, and you tell us when somebody should lose theirs.
  • Each person keeps their own sign-in to themselves. Anything done from an account is treated as done by that person.
  • Your organisation is responsible for what its people enter: players, fixtures, scores and team sheets.

Scoring links

A scoring link lets whoever holds it score one match, or every game on one field of a tournament, without an account. It reaches nothing else. Treat it like a key: send it to the person who is scoring and not to a group. A link for one match stops working twelve hours after kick-off, and an organisation can switch any link off sooner.

One phone scores a match at a time. Another phone holding the link can take over, and both are told when it does. Anything a phone recorded before it was taken over is still saved.

What you put in, and the public record

  • Enter only players your organisation is entitled to record, and keep the record accurate. If something is wrong, correct it, or ask us to.
  • A school may switch on public player names for its season totals. By doing that it confirms it holds each parent’s permission, which MatchLog cannot check and does not ask for on the school’s behalf.
  • The result of a match, its line-up once it has kicked off and the player who scored are public and stay public. The privacy page lists exactly what is and is not.
  • Your organisation’s information remains yours. We use it only to run MatchLog for you.

What nobody may do

  • Try to read, change or remove another organisation’s information, or get round any of the limits MatchLog puts on an account or a link.
  • Test the security of the site, overload it or copy its pages or data in bulk with automated tools. If you think you have found a security problem, tell us and we will thank you for it.
  • Enter anything abusive, misleading or unlawful, including in a name or a note.
  • Use MatchLog to rank named children against children at other schools.

We may suspend an account or switch off a link that is being used this way, and we will tell the organisation why.

Keeping it running

We work to keep MatchLog available and the record accurate, and we fix faults as soon as we know about them. We cannot promise that it will never be unavailable or that a phone will always have signal. A phone saves every score it records first and sends it when the signal returns, but a score that never leaves a lost or broken phone cannot be recovered.

The score on MatchLog is what the scorer recorded. It is not an official result unless the competition says it is, and the referee and the competition organiser have the final word.

Paying for it

Following a match is free. Where an organisation pays for MatchLog, the price and the period are agreed with that organisation in writing, and that agreement sits alongside these terms.

Ending it

An organisation can stop using MatchLog at any time. We can close its accounts so nobody can sign in any more. The matches themselves stay on the record, because a game that was played was played. The privacy page explains what that means for a child’s name.

Responsibility

MatchLog is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that follow indirectly from using it, for example a fixture missed because a time was entered wrongly. Nothing in these terms takes away a right the law gives you that cannot be taken away. These terms are governed by the law of South Africa.

Changes, and asking us something

If we change these terms we will change the date below, and we will tell organisations about anything that changes what they may do. Anything at all: hello@matchlog.co.za.
